About us

Reason and Mission

There are many challenges for immigrants in a new country, such as integration into a new culture and society, language, as well as unique challenges such as racism and xenophobia. For Brazilians and Latin Americans abroad, this problem would be no different.

According to the annual report of the victim support association (APAV), 1580 crimes were recorded against persons of foreign nationality. As for the commission for equality and against racial discrimination (CICDR), it shows that complaints of discrimination against Brazilians in Portugal increased by 433%.

Discrimination that brings together multiple expressions – which happen when hate speech reaches a nationality or skin color simultaneously, and in a lot of cases, the victims are scared to report the problem to the authorities, making this numbers possibly higher

However, some platforms, such as “Brasileiras não se calam” include several racism reports and complaints from Brazilians and Latinas, as well as sexual harassment complaints due to the worldwide stereotype hypersexualized of Brazilian and Latin women – these reports come from different parts of the world, as well as different countries in Europe, including the Netherlands.

However, we believe in art as a powerful tool for reflection and transformation of problems in society, as it is a form of communication capable of connecting human beings and reflecting changes in society – acknowledging a problem and creating a space for dialogue.

BAILE PROJECT comes as a space for that, proposing cultural exchange and integration, between Brazil and the Netherlands, proposing a diverse program of theatre and dance shows, acoustic music concerts, workshops, dance classes and lectures - all conducted by people of different nationalities. In addition, bringing topics of important discussion for society such as the fight against racism and gender inequality.

The BAILE PROJECT aims to be an annual program on Amsterdam agenda, proposing a cultural exchange between the local population and the foreign/immigrant population. Where cultural differences are acclaimed, with a diverse program for all ages, in a safe space in the capital of the Netherlands.

The BAILE PROJECT is a project created and produced by the cultural company RUA 06 – Arts & Entertainment, directed by the artist and entrepreneur Anna Carolina Marques
